P.S. I LOVE YOU
Written at Wednesday, April 28, 2010 | back to top

Tell me something, have you ever wanted or at least once imagined that you'll spend you life with someone that you can safely consider your soul-mate?

That no matter how much you despise that person one second and then be wholly in love with them the next second - you fight, you love, you laugh, you cried, but whatever the weather, you stick with them til the very end.
To be with someone who will always surprise you no matter in what condition you're in. That'll care for you even long after they're gone. I can bet that all of us wants that. But in real life, these imaginary things were just TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

If you're a dreamer like I am, then this movie is perfect for you. From the very start of it, you can be so angry, disgusted, funny (I did! ahah) and then you fall in love. People may say that this one is just a another clever love story just like the others, but having read the novel and watched the movie again and again, I dare say it's different.

The tale of how Holly go through her life after the death of her husband and soul-mate is so touching. What made the impact more than the usual ones is that, you can feel the emotions that the casts shows. It somehow reminds me of how it was when family members passed away. We just try to move on with our life even when deep down it is very hard, that almost everything that we faced reminds us of them.

The movie revolves on how Holly move on with her life with the help of her late husband, Gerry. You can see that at first she refused to do so, but got the encouragement after getting a birthday gift from her husband on her 30th birthday, the one without him around. She starts to anticipate letters from him every months, each letter with a certain message that helped her cope with usual day to day stuff to the very important decision to part with Gerry once and for all (here, I meant to part with the feeling of responsibility to keep on being his wife long after he died).

It is always so sweet to hear Gerry's letter and all the adventure he kept in stored for his beloved wife. Here we can see how love can be so beautiful with simple things and it can be kept long when our soul departs. It is as if were giving our last advice on things for our loved ones.

The character of Holly here is obviously so vulnerable when the movie started, vulnerable as in to all sort of feelings and emotions that always made her unstable, scared at times. But the character evolves throughout the movie from a widower who was always sad since the beginning after her husband died, to a strong woman who can stand up on her own and decide what she can so with her life- someone who is unafraid to open a new chapter, without forgetting the ones before.

Gerry on the other hand, is always sweet since the beginning til the end. To tell you the truth, if I need to find a man to be my husband and companion til the very end, I'll pick someone who is like Gerry plus have a good faith prospects. Gerry might be sort of trash talker and slacker sometimes here, but he's like the perfect man that everybody loves to have.

Aside from the tale of love and romance and coping with life, P.S. I LOVE YOU also touched me in a sense of values of friendship that it showed. Being someone who doesn't really know if she'd had best friend(s), I would really want to have those like Denice and Sharon. They're just so great that I wished I had them. To have that bond of friendship I dare say is scarce nowadays with all the backstabbing and this and that. But in this movie, it really open my eyes and gives me hope that there are people who can become my besties like these three girls in real life.

Sharon and Denise stays by Holly's side through thick or thin. They're always there to comfort her when she's sad and needed support. They enjoyed being together and always checking out on each other whether they're OK or not.

The movie plot is different from that of the book. I read the book beforehand, so there are certain parts (actually a lot of parts) that I wished they never changed too far from the book, better still, if they follow the original plot from the book.
Cecelis Ahern's touch on the story is so magical and touching. Even when the screenplay was written a bit differently.

But I can definitely say that this movie is A GREAT JOY to watch, and it's better to watch with your loved ones.

P/S I LOVE YOU deserves a YYYYY

Things I like in this movie:
EVERYTHING!!

My favorite of Gerry's quote:

Dear Holly, I don't have much time. I don't mean literally, I mean you're out buying ice cream and you'll be home soon. But I have a feeling this is the last letter, because there is only one thing left to tell you. It isn't to go down memory lane or make you buy a lamp, you can take care of yourself without any help from me. It's to tell you how much you move me, how you changed me. You made me a man, by loving me Holly. And for that, I am eternally grateful... literally. If you can promise me anything, promise me that whenever you're sad, or unsure, or you lose complete faith, that you'll try to see yourself through my eyes. Thank you for the honor of being my wife. I'm a man with no regrets. How lucky am I. You made my life, Holly. But I'm just one chapter in yours. There'll be more. I promise. So here it comes, the big one. Don't be afraid to fall in love again. Watch out for that signal, when life as you know it ends. P.S. I will always love you.

My favorite of Holly's quote:
(the last like before the movie wraps)

Dear Gerry, you said you wanted me to fall in love again, and maybe one day I will. But there are all kinds of love out there. This is my one and only life, And its a great and terrible and short and endless thing, and none of us come out of it alive. I don't have a plan... except, it's time my mom laughed again. She has never seen the world... she has never seen Ireland. So, I'm taking her back where we started... Maybe now she'll understand. I don't know how you did it, but you brought me back from the dead. I'll write to you again soon. P.S... Guess what?

The Princess and The Frog
Written at Saturday, February 13, 2010 | back to top

Remember when we were young, our parents of someone older tells us the story of a prince cursed into becoming a frog that talks. Befriend a princess and asks her to kiss him when later he turned back into human being? It's a classic fairy tale, told from generations to generation all over the world. The end of 2009, Walt Disney Pictures screened the modern day tale of The Frog Prince. When the classic one suggests that the frog turned into human being upon kissing the princess, it's kind of different in this version of the Princess and the Frog.

The tale of Tiana, a pretty and very hardworking waitress, working shifts day and night at different places to earn as much fund as she can to open a restaurant that her father wanted to have before he died. It's called Tiana's Place. To make her dreams come true, Tiana work as much as she could that she barely go out with friends or relax. A poor girl herself, Tiana befriended a rich heiress of whom from the family her mother used to work with as a tailor. The one who so bubbly and dramatic Charlotte, who always believes true love and the power of wishing to a wishing star.

Tiana life's changed when she met a frog that claimed that it is a prince after being lures to make a deal with the devil by Dr. Facilier or famously called as The Shadow Man for almost the entire movie. He convinced her to kiss him and promised her plenty of money to help her open the restaurant. However, it might be a happy ending for the classic tale in the classic version once the frog was kissed, the's a bit of twist here because instead of turning the frog prince into human form, Tiana turned into a frog!

Their journey to seek for help to change themselves into human form again brought them an unexpected friendship, adventure and love...and a little bit of fun along the way. They both met a vegetarian gator who loves music and dream of playing his trumpet with the band, and Ray, a very helpful and caring firefly who if brave and very much in love with the wishing star he called Evangeline.

What I like about this movie is that the fact it feature morale values that were and still are reasonable and noble as well as touching. I can say that i could see the message of this movie. It's about dreaming big, overcome the circumstances that held you back from achieving it, work together and be helpful. Plus, love...it's blind!!

What i barely like here...it's too dark for certain parts.

I think I'll make this one simple enough. I barely have much time here actually. But I hope I can update more often later. =)

Enjoy!

Owh, to all my Chinese friends and visitors, Happy Chinese New Year of The Tiger!!

The Tale Of Desperaux
Written at Tuesday, January 26, 2010 | back to top

The Tale of Desperaux explores the story of a mouse named Desperaux in his quest of resqueing the princess. It's a kind of a fairytale but here the heroes is no prince charming but a cute little mouse with big ears (cute!) and a heart of a gentleman. What I can say about this one is that the way the story was told, it reminds me of why fairytales or cartoons always mesmerises me everytime I watched it. Seriously I've been looking for this movie for a long time before I got my hands on it. It's very hard to find it in Malaysia. But above all the waiting and searching, it all paid when I finally watched it last few days.

The story reveals a lot of emotions. It shares with us how longing felt and what it can make us become. It is so much like a reality when we get to the part where the narrator said something that meant when you were sad or felt guilty, you tend to finger point other people that you'd think would can be the reason of why you were feeling as so even when it all started from yourself. It is so much true in real life that whenever there's something wrong that made us felt sad or full of anger even when we do not know why we did so, we tend to say that other people causes that. Even when it's not true (some maybe not 100% true), and we tend to want to hurt that person. But in the end, we didn't feel satisfied, we grieve more instead.

I love the sentimental parts of this movie. It is not s much of a cartoon when you really listen to the words the characters said. It's more of a teaching for the whole movie. Like when you listen tothe bedtime stories that your parents shared, of read it somewhere when you were young, it is often by the end of the story a moral to learn. Something that we need to apply in our daily lives as what we were told. In The Tale of Desperaux, the moral of the story lies in almost everywhere at any parts of it.

You know when you're different from other people and you tend to not care to change because you just knew that it's OKAY to be different. Well, that is what happened to Desperaux. He was born different from the other mice. He's so small, so confident of himself, he does not care if the other opposes him because he knew it's nothing wrong with what he did. Desperaux is an example of being so different, means nothing different at all, nothing less, just SPECIAL.

I somehow can relate him with myself. I'm small in size compared to other friends. Normal but small. I tend to do things differently from other people. I did my stuf my way and does not follow the rules when I think it doesn't apply to. Just like Desperaux, adventure is everywhere, you just need to find it, and you can be whatever you want to be, even when you're a mouse, you CAN have a heart of a gentleman.

But above all, the most important thing that you really should look into in this movie is of FORGIVENESS. Forgiveness is something that you cannot only think about it in your mind, but you need to let it free in your heart. Most of us says what is important in our heart is sincerity. We should not only be sincere in forgiving other people, but we have to be sincere enough to seek for forgiveness from others. Ego always stands in the way of this. ESPECIALLY in grown ups. So, grown ups, here's the deal, if you ask your children to take example of you on all the good things that you've done...open your eyes, because forgiving and seeking for forgiveness is something that you should totally learn from you kids, because they knew a whole lot better than you do in the ego department.

Before I end the review (yay! my first review on this blog!! HAHA) that i thought should be short but ended up LONG! I leave you with something to ponder, a quote towards the end of the Tale of Desperaux.

"Narrator: Ok, remember when we said that grief was the strongest thing a person could feel? Well, it isn't. It's forgiveness because a single act of forgiveness can change everything."

Things I like:
The character Desperaux and Roscuro
Lots of funny parts that left me laughing out loud.
The baby Desperaux!
